What is Over the Hill?
Over the Hill comes from Funselektor Labs, the studio behind art of rally and Absolute Drift, and it trades lap times for open wandering. Each area is a hand-crafted 4 km x 4 km slice of countryside, the launch build ships with Canada and Algeria, and you can drive from one area into the next without ever being kicked back to a menu.
Slow Offroad Driving
Low and high range, grip that changes with weather, and terrain you read rather than race. The game is a driving game, not a racing one.
Hand-Built Wilderness
Canada and Algeria, each cut into areas roughly 4 km x 4 km that connect directly, so you never hit a loading screen between regions.
Four-Player Co-op
Up to four drivers share one area, each with their own truck, and every objective you reach is credited to you rather than to the host.
Tools & Upgrades
Winches, planks and repair kits solve the obstacle in front of you; parts and tyres permanently widen the terrain you can clear.
There is no race to win and no timer running. Challenge trails exist for drivers who want a hard line up a ridge, but the default loop is slower: plan a route, get it wrong, winch yourself out, and carry on. Co-op follows the same philosophy — up to four drivers share one area, and everyone banks their own progress.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I start Over the Hill without getting stuck immediately?+
Finish the tutorial trail first, because it unlocks your camera, map pins and recovery tools, and then spend a short loop around your starting cabin getting used to how slowly a loaded truck responds to steering. Drive in low range on anything that looks like a climb, deep mud or snow, and switch to high range only on open ground and long transfers.
How many vehicles are there and how do I unlock them?+
The launch build has eighteen unlockable vehicles drawn from the 1960s through the 1980s, split across four broad categories rather than ranked against each other. Trucks join your garage through progress — completing objectives and discovering areas — rather than being bought with a single currency, so the fastest way to grow the roster is to keep doing new things in the world.
How big is the map in Over the Hill?+
There are two launch regions, Canada and Algeria, and each is cut into hand-crafted areas roughly four kilometres by four kilometres. Areas connect directly through exits, so you can drive from one straight into the next without returning to a menu. Cabins act as fast travel and resupply points, and portals move you to areas you would otherwise have to drive to.
How does the wildlife compendium work?+
Photographing an animal with the in-game camera adds it to that region's journal, and the compendium tracks common wildlife, birds, nocturnal species and the rare and legendary entries separately. Completing a set is a tracked goal with its own achievement. Engine noise and speed scare animals, so cut the throttle early, coast the last stretch and stop before raising the camera.
Does co-op progress count for everyone in Over the Hill?+
Yes, and that is the mode's best feature. Up to four drivers share one area, each in their own vehicle, and progress is credited to each player for the objectives they personally reach rather than only to the host. Progress also carries between solo and online sessions, so you can scout a region alone and then bring friends into the same world.
How many achievements does Over the Hill have?+
Sixty-two Steam achievements at launch, several of them hidden until they unlock. They split naturally into early unlocks, cumulative distance grinds, condition-specific runs in snow and rain and sand and mud, the photography checklist, and two regional completion awards for clearing Canada and Algeria. Nothing is permanently missable, since the game has no ending.
Is Over the Hill well optimised on PC?+
The launch build is a substantial improvement on the poorly received Next Fest demo, so tuning advice written during the demo period is likely out of date. Some players still report unusually high GPU load in certain configurations. Starting from the preset closest to your GPU and capping the frame rate resolves most of those reports without any deeper tuning.
